I recently took a trip to Italy (Rome and Amalfi Coast) and Greece through a group travel company. I absolutely loved it, to say the least. It was a total of ten days, spending about four days in Italy and the rest in Greece, in Athens and some of the Greek islands. This post is to share my favorite parts of what I experienced from traveling in a group and the trip itself.

Here is the video where I show some highlights of the trip.

Food

The food is of course of of my favorite parts. I noticed that the pasta did not have the same affect of bloating that I have in the U.S., which was amazing. The taste is also superior, as it is not as processed and made with more simple ingredients, which is easier to digest. My favorite pasta in Italy was cacio e pepe and also loved the margherita pizza, gelato, of course tiramisu and the cappuccinos were exquisite. My favorite dishes in Greece were chicken gyro, greek salad, lamb with mashed potatoes, fruit yogurt parfait and so much more! It is common to have wine with meals, which did not feel heavy or overwhelming at all. I also enjoyed a melon spritz by the beach in Greece, which was delightful!

Culture

The slower pace of the Greek islands was one of my favorite culture experiences. I was aware that siestas existed from my previous experience in Barcelona, it is also typical in Greece. Siestas are when stores close around mid-day, after lunch time, then open back up. This time is used for people to go back home and relax/ nap. This is common practice in some countries such as Greece, which I wish the U.S. could learn from. The U.S. is fast paced and rushed all the time, which often contributes to high stress.

I also enjoyed the architecture in Rome and Greece. In Rome, the Greek mythology and learning about all of the gods, the greek people believed in was interesting. Greek people built monuments and temples for their gods which are now popular tourist attractions such as the Parthenon (built to honor Athena), Temple of Poseidon, Temple of Apollo.

Also, the stunning turquoise waters in Greece along with the white buildings are dreamy. Absolutely spectacular! The architecture is so stunning it feels unreal to be walking down the streets of the islands.

Memories

I will never forget swimming in a cave in Greek waters, climbing up the steps of the Acropolis in Athens, dancing to traditional Greek music. These are the moments I live for and want to live a life where new experiences and adventures are typical. Living a life without travel and adventures is not fulfilling to me.

I do recommend group travel since they plan the itinerary (making time for free time) and all accommodations. It was an action packed ten days and I loved that I was able to experience so much in the short amount of time. If anyone is interested in checking them out here is their site.

The most valuable lesson I took away, is to not be afraid to go out and explore the world; there is so much out there to see. Traveling with a group of strangers, all my same age was also a fun experience. I made some great friends while seeing the most break-taking sights. I tend to forget that there is so much to experience outside of daily life. We get caught up in our daily routines and this trip has made me excited for the next adventure! Until next time!

Where should my next adventure be?
