Lately, I have been on a health kick and making sure to eat foods that nourish my body. One of my favorite ways to nourish my body (especially when really busy) is making smoothies. My go-to green smoothie is filled with vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, antioxidants, inflammation fighting properties and more! I love this drink and make it regularly, it has so many added benefits. The awesome part of smoothies is that there are so many variations to make. I also really enjoy adding oatmeal to my smoothies with strawberries, banana, yogurt. But today, I want to share my delicious green detox smoothie.

Also, I do not use measurements for smoothies, I am using a rough estimate here. This recipe makes about one cup serving.

Ingredients: (I try to use organic, if possible)
1/2 cup of almond milk (Califia Farms)
One handful of spinach
Half a banana
One tablespoon of spirulina powder (Pure Hawaiian Spirulina)
One date
One tablespoon of chia seeds (nutiva)
One handful of blueberries

Steps:
Put all ingredients in a blender and enjoy!

Benefits:
Since I have recently stopped taking heavy medications, I am cleansing out my body of those toxins by supporting my liver and immune system. The spirulina has amazing gut health, detoxing properties and also a good source of plant protein. Also, banana, dates, chia seeds and spinach are great sources of fiber, which help with gut health. I also love using blueberries, these little berries are packed with antioxidants. This smoothie is filled with calcium, magnesium, iron, folate, vitamin C, K, potassium, antioxidants and more. There are so many amazing benefits of this little green smoothie such as helping with brain health, stabilizing blood glucose levels, etc. I have also noticed my skin clearing up since incorporating more foods to help detox my body. Coming off the medications really threw my hormones off and caused an increase in acne. Thankfully, my body has been healing since.
Notes:
The date is an added ingredient for sweetness. The date and banana help balance out the taste of the spinach and spirulina. This can be modified with the ingredients you have in your fridge. Sometimes,I add mango chunks as well. I always feel so energized and alert after drinking this and it makes me feel great overall knowing, I am nourishing my body. It also helps with muscle recovery or even before a workout.
Try it out and don't forget to get your servings of fruits and veggies!

Very smart decision Peque, keep motivated!
